Morris Brown College owes millions of dollars to the federal government. Word on the street is that there will be no financial aid for next semester. Morris Brown is in trouble. If there was ever a time for African Americans to come together...it's now.

Morris Brown has had a long standing tradition of picking itself up on its own. Not accepting money from any person or institution unless they are solely African American has been a laudable and noteworthy undertaking for this glorious institution.

However, here in lies the rub...They need money, they don't take money from people not of color. Perhaps their belief in the resilient African American spirit and black people as a whole is enough faith to keep them floating, but they need real hard cold cash.

The question is, should Morris Brown take 'White' money?

It can be answered in a few ways...Yes they should. If they do take money from white institutions like Coca Cola, Microsoft, etc., they will be able to pay off their creditors and debts. Granted it will go against the main thing that they stand for institutionally, but it will keep the school afloat. In other words, use what you can to get what you want. It's all politics.

No they should not. There is enough economic wealth in the African American community in Atlanta to fund and resuscitate Morris Brown. If not in Atlanta, definitely Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Maynard Jackson, and a few of the top 50 blacks on Wall Street could get together and make this thing happen. We have the collective buying power to do anything we want to, and I think saving Morris Brown would be the most laudable venture ever attempted.

I'm Joe, and that's how I see it.
